A 16 year old Alton boy, Zachary Kimbrough, died on 01/07/2013 from an accidental gunshot wound received on 01/06/2013. The incident occurred at a cabin in rural Oregon County, approximately 13 miles east of Alton.
Shortly after 9:00 P.M. on Sunday, the Sheriff's Office received a call from a male caller stating that a 16 year old male had been shot in the head and that they were en-route to the Alton Medical Clinic. The young man was initially transported by ambulance to Ozarks Medical Center with a gunshot wound to his head, then was transferred by air ambulance to Cox Hospital in Springfield.
Even though foul play is not suspected to have contributed to the death, the fatal incident is being investigated by the Oregon County Sheriff's Office, the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Alton Police Department, the 37th Judicial Circuit Juvenile Division, and the West Plains Police Department.
